We're here because budgets aren't one-size-fits-all

Started in 2019 when two accountants got tired of watching clients struggle with rigid financial templates. Real life doesn't follow spreadsheet formulas, and your budget shouldn't either.

01

Flexibility over perfection

Last year a client came in panicking because they'd blown their grocery budget three months running. Turned out their teenager had started competitive swimming and needed 4,000 extra calories daily. We adjusted. That's the whole point—your budget should bend when life throws you curveballs, not snap.

02

Honest conversations about money

You won't hear us say "just cut out coffee" or pretend that willpower alone fixes cash flow problems. We've seen people earning six figures living paycheck to paycheck and families on modest incomes building real savings. The difference? Usually systemic, not personal.

03

Building systems that stick

A budget you don't follow is just financial fiction. We work backwards from your actual spending habits—what you do on autopilot—then shape systems around that reality. Sometimes that means three bank accounts, sometimes it means monthly check-ins, sometimes it means automated everything.

From frustration to foundation

Back in early 2019, we were working at a traditional financial planning firm. Same story every week: clients would come in, we'd build them beautiful budgets, and by month three they'd stopped tracking entirely.

The breaking point came when a teacher told us she felt like a failure because she couldn't stick to our carefully crafted spending plan. She wasn't failing—our system was. It ignored the reality that her income fluctuated with casual teaching days, that her expenses spiked during school holidays when her kids were home.

So we started brexolariqn in Salamander Bay with a different premise. What if budgets adapted to people instead of demanding people adapt to budgets? What if the goal wasn't perfection but progressive improvement?

Six years in, we've helped over 400 households build financial systems that actually work for their lives. Not perfect systems. Working systems.

The people behind the numbers

We're small on purpose. Every client works directly with us, not an associate or junior advisor. You get our mobile numbers. When questions come up at 9pm while you're doing bills, you can text.

Spent twelve years in corporate accounting before realizing she preferred helping individuals over balancing corporate books. Has a weird talent for spotting subscription fees people forgot they were paying—current record is finding $347 monthly in forgotten auto-renewals. Lives in Nelson Bay with three rescue dogs who've blown every pet budget she's ever created.

Came to Australia from Sweden in 2015, worked in financial planning, got frustrated with rigid approaches. Now specializes in irregular income budgeting—freelancers, contractors, seasonal workers. Once helped a fishing charter operator build a budget that accounted for weather cancellations and tourist season fluctuations. Makes terrible coffee but excellent spreadsheets.

How we actually work with you

We start with reality, not theory

First meeting is just looking at what you're actually spending. No judgment, no lectures about what you "should" be doing. We need to see the truth before we can build something useful.

Then we identify your specific friction points

Maybe it's that you're paid fortnightly but your rent's monthly. Maybe it's managing money with a partner who has completely different spending habits. Maybe it's three kids in daycare eating your entire paycheck. Whatever it is, that's what we build around.

We build flexibility into the structure

Your budget gets buffer categories, adjustment periods, and realistic targets. We're aiming for "mostly works most months" not "perfect execution always." Because life happens and rigid plans break.

You test it, we adjust it

First version rarely sticks perfectly. That's expected. We meet again after six weeks, see what worked and what didn't, then refine. Sometimes takes three rounds to get it right. That's normal.

Ready to build a budget that actually fits your life?

We're taking new clients for our autumn 2025 planning sessions. Initial consultation takes about 90 minutes and we'll tell you honestly if we think we can help or if you're better off elsewhere.
